So today my group finished the video. It was a collaborative process where we each needed to pick up skills in editing and filming to create a final product. We met up several times and also worked individually, and when met with struggles we were able to contact one another for assistance. I personally collected videos from my other activities and put them into the video and assisted in interviews

At today’s meeting, we gathered the final collection of cans for the food drive we hold annually. It felt so great to know that using a fun method, where the class that raised the most cans got a prize, we were able to collaboratively raise more than 150 pounds of food for the Treasure Coast food bank. I took the cans to the bank myself, and it was so rewarding knowing I organized something and worked with my theatre community as one to do something so helpful.

In today’s Beta club meeting, we gathered for the first time of the senior year. The officers presented us with the several plans they have for our school year and it nonetheless made me excited for all the opportunities they had planned. Last year, we were able to not only impact the community, like with Christmas caroling at the nursery home, but also help our own beta members through the senior hand prints. I plan on attending as many events as possible for Beta this year, as I have seen first hand how working with this group of dedicated students has the ability to do great things.

At our tournament today, my nationals team did amazing. Although we didn’t place (we lost the game before the final match) our team meshed like it has never meshed before. Yesterday during the preliminaries we did OK, just well enough to get into the silver bracket, but personally I didn’t feel well about how I played. Today changed all that; I covered, blocked both right and left while playing middle, and got around 5 kills each match. It felt so amazing! My team as a whole played as one driving force, and now we know that we have the ability to be great if we put in the effort. At the end of the game we identified our holes, and plan to work on them in the next few practices.

Today I learned that I earned 3rd place in a competition that my local Red Cross club was holding. The competition was basically who could bring in the most cans in order to donate to Grace packs, which provides children with food to take home over the weekend if they don’t have enough money to buy food themselves. I was personally inspired to bring in cans because of the global significance it has as malnutrition is a major problem for people all around the world. Through the competition, we were able to gather over 100 cans for the program. This really showed us how much of a difference we could make if we worked together.

After only having a few rehearsals, Ms. Forbus, our director, has our group auditioning for a performance at the Lyric Theatre. Although we are still in the rough stages of rehearsing, we know the whole dance and are in the process of cleaning everything up. I am excited as I feel the performance at the Lyric Theatre will be great prep for competition. This dance is truly a group effort as everyone has to put in work in order to make it the best it can be. Personally, I need to work on specific areas so I will need to practice by myself using the recordings that our director have made from previous practices.

Today we performed our play at district competition. Overall, I am really proud of how we did. Although we were shooting for Critic’s Choice, we got alternate for States and were 1 of only 3 out of the 7 One Acts that received overall Superiors. I personally feel very happy with how I performed, as well as how we all did and I think we put everything we had on that stage. This is true proof on what hard work gets you.

Today we did something called “Relationship building”. Overall it was a really cool experience as our director had us improvise conversations with other main characters in the one act. It was amazing to see how working together we were able to build not only our relationships but also our characters and overall gave the one act a very interconnected feel. I have developed new skills in acting with this experience and learned the importance of responsibility (by learning my lines), expression, and gaining trust in my fellow cast-mates.
